A life-threatening illness in January of 2009 became a defining moment for me and my career, I had a lot of time to reevaluate what it was I wanted from life and to change my direction of travel, so shortly afterwards I left my role of 10 years at npower and set up Smart Change Consulting Ltd, and I have never looked back.
I have since gone on to develop my own personal development brand, I have authored a best selling book ‘Strength & Power’, become a Practitioner of Mindfulness and TM Meditation and set-up a new incubator white label company Skywalk Utilities for the UK energy markets.
I carry a small pebble with me each day – a ‘gratitude rock’ just to remind me of everything I have in life and how lucky I am, not necessarily with wealth or material possessions but life itself, good health, a lovely family and being blessed with two beautiful grandsons, the best ever friends and a rewarding career.
My passion is making a difference and adding value, a simple smile to a stranger may be the only smile they get that day. I have translated this passion into my career, I’m an advocate of supporting individuals and businesses in developing their ideas into viable businesses and supporting them through the first years of growth. Hence why I created Skywalk Utilities to support new energy suppliers and local energy companies with their endeavors to bring innovation to the UK market place. I also have a keen interest in delivering reductions in fuel poverty and poverty-related health issues in the utilities sector via lower tariffs, innovative technology and community energy based schemes. I am keen to work with suppliers, local authorities, community groups and technology providers who appreciate how difficult it is for far too many families to heat their homes, many choosing between heating or eating, something I myself have faced in the past. This should not be happening in today’s society. There is so much more to be done and as the industry ramps up the mass rollout of smart meters, we can look at alternative technology such as the internet of things (IoT) to deliver tangible benefits to communities and households who need it the most.

My career began working in Distribution, Retail and Transport for 16 years, it wasn’t until the year 2000 I moved industries and began my career in utilities. Which has spanned from being an accounts manager at npower to now advising the industry’s big players and new market entrants on a strategic and operational basis. I was the sole consultant brought in to set-up and launch of Robin Hood Energy, the country’s first fully licensed not for profit energy supplier in 2015. I developed the business case for them, built the financial model, ran the procurement that got full approval for a commercial investment loan of £11.6million. I was integral to the setup of the end to end operational supply company, supporting the city council in this major programme of work. I was asked by Nottingham City Council to stay on and run the company, delivering the actual business case I had created for them as well as continuing my consultancy for others.
Towards the end of 2015, I took part in a televised interview where I was asked to give evidence to the National Assembly for Wales, advising the panel on the future of energy supply in the country. During 2016, I was invited as a guest speaker for many conferences and events including the PRASEG annual conference, where I joined the panel discussion which focused on the wide range of innovative energy projects happening at regional, local authority and community level; the new technologies that are enabling this transition; how these are shaping the UK’s future energy landscape and how they fit in with the government’s devolution agenda and wider energy and climate policy goals. I also lead the development of the white label and partnerships strategy for Robin Hood Energy and brought to market White Rose Energy on behalf of Leeds City Council, Brighter World Energy on behalf of Switch On Ltd and The Energy Deal Ltd all white label partners of Robin Hood Energy. Prior to finishing my contract with Robin Hood Energy, I secured a white label partnership with Ebico Ltd who have operated for the past 16 years as a, not for profit white label provider with Scottish and Southern Energy – this was a big win and great final deliverable. In addition to this, in 2016 I also provided market entry support to Brook Green Supply Limited, a brand new fully licensed commercial supplier, whom I also obtained shipper licenses for.
In 2017 I provided UK market entry support to ESB Energy, Orbit Energy and Inspired Energy PLC(Bluebell Energy) all fully licensed to supply gas and electricity to UK residents and businesses.
I continue to support energy suppliers who have either entered or are considering entering the UK markets and I am also working with a variety of clients who aim to deliver innovation to the sector.
I have diversified my business and mentor support packages to SME’s and individuals from a variety of industries, business sectors and trades.
I provide strategic and operational support to organisations of all sizes, with varying business models for entry into the UK markets.
